Founder of Liberty TV/Radio FM stations, and associated online platforms, Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmed Tijjani Ramalan, has publicly clarified his professional role, stressing that he should not be referred to as a journalist.

In a statement issued yesterday, the media entrepreneur explained that his position is distinct from that of reporters, presenters, or correspondents who work on his platforms.

“Let me state it plainly – as a broadcast owner, I own and control broadcast media outlets such as radio stations, television channels and digital platforms”, he stated.

Ramalan noted that while his organizations provide news and current affairs content to the public, the responsibility for creating, researching, investigating, and presenting such content lies with the journalists, reporters, and broadcasters he employs.

According to him, the distinction is important, in order to avoid confusion between media proprietors and practicing journalists, as both serve different but complementary roles within the industry.

Industry observers say Ramalan’s clarification reflects a wider debate within the Nigerian media space over the blurred lines between ownership, editorial control, and professional journalism.
